Native Pollinator Safari at Skinner Park

Go on the hunt for native species of pollinators and see how many you can find.

Honeybees aren't the only pollinating insects. There are many varieties of native bees, wasps and flies that pollinate the plants we see around us every day. Armed with an identification sheet, go on the hunt with the Chicago Honey Co-op for native species and see how many you can find! Find Out More

Hands On Beekeeping Class

  • Green City Market

Join us for this outdoor hands-on class on the roof of Rancho Verde, headquarters of Christy Webber Landscapes. Students will get instruction on beekeeping tools, lighting a smoker, hive inspection techniques, how to determine the health of the queen, and much more. While this class is intended for students who have taken our Winter lecture class, we happily accept people who have studied on their own and want some practical experience before they get started.

We do recommend reading a basic beekeeping book ahead of time to be familiar with honeybee biology and habits, and common beekeeping terms.

Class will run from 10 AM to 3PM with a potluck lunch. Students will be contacted with details about a week before the class

Bee Squad Beer Release Party

Please join the Bee Squad and the rest of Goose Island at the J Parker for a celebration of this limited release.

100% of the ticket sales will benefit The Chicago Honey Co-op Training Center.

The Chicago Honey Co-op Training Center was started as a way to expand the educational efforts begun by Chicago Honey Co-op. Beekeeping education and training have always been a part of what the Co-op is about but keeping bees and selling honey are full-time occupations. Starting an education focused partner non-profit was a way to bring their beekeeping knowledge to more people.

Free Adult Workshop: Honeybees and Horticulture

  • Luire Garden/Chicago Cultural Center

Beekeeping is an ancient craft, practiced in all world cultures except the arctic. Deep respect is acquired from learning about what bees and other migrating animals eat in our neighborhoods. Foraging only nectar and pollen, honeybees produce clean, healthy food that embodies our environment in taste, texture and beauty. Prairie remnants provide an amazing pallet of perennials and annual wild flowers that many of us don't recognize. The presentation will show the trees, shrubs and other flowering plants that are essential for insect health and which abound in the Chicago region in restoration prairies, neglected lots, and local backyards. Presented by Michael Thompson, Farm Manager, Chicago Honey Co-op.
